How much does it cost to install a faucet?
A faucet can generally be installed fairly quickly; but because every home is different, the pricing varies. Certain conditions, styles, and sink set-up may affect the price. This includes the conditions of your pipes, the supply lines and shut-off valves, the type of faucet and the ease of access to the sink itself.
Do I need a plumber to install a faucet?
Not really. Faucets you buy at hardware stores and online come with everything you need to install the faucet yourself. Where people run into trouble is with not having the right tools for the job and with the shut-off valves. Professional plumbers make it look easy, but a do-it-yourselfer can easily lose an entire afternoon (or NFL game) replacing their own faucet. Plastic shut-off valves can break if they haven’t been used in a while, turning a simple faucet replacement into a plumbing nightmare.
How hard is it to install a faucet?
Installing a faucet is easy — until things start to go wrong. Replacing a faucet should be a matter of shutting off the water supplies, pulling out the old faucet, and installing the new one. However, many things can turn that into a full-on project. Many people end up buying the wrong style faucet for their kitchen sink openings or forget about the spray nozzle supply. Shut-off valves can break. Pipes can break inside the wall. Sometimes, the old faucet needs to be cut out. If all goes well, it should take you about an hour to replace a faucet.
How do I know if my faucet cartridge is bad?
If you have a single-handle faucet, it has a cartridge inside of it that helps you adjust the mix of hot and cold water as well as the volume of water flow. When that cartridge starts to go bad, you may notice water temperatures that are off or a leak from the water spout. Often, we can repair this by replacing the O-ring or the cartridge itself. This could also be the opportunity to get that upgraded faucet.
How often should faucet supply lines be replaced?
We recommend replacing faucet supply lines every ten (10) years. They may last longer, but the headache of leaks just isn’t worth it. It’s a simple enough service to add to our next visit to your home.
