How is a slab leak detected?
We detect a slab leak in two ways. First, when you turn off all water in the house, the outside meter shouldn’t show any use. Second, with the faucets and other fixtures still turned off, we listen for sounds of running water in the walls and floors. Any sound is a sign that there may be a slab leak. After determining that there is a slab leak, we then use leak detection equipment to first, pinpoint the leak, and second, to locate the manifolds where the water goes into the ground so that we can reroute the water line, and this also allows for minimal damage.
What causes a leak in the slab?
A slab leak is a leak in the copper pipes below the foundation of the home, not in the slab itself. Over time, copper pipes develop leaks due to thermal expansion and high water pressure. As water turns from hot to cold in the pipes, the pipes expand and contract. This can cause leaks in the pipes. Changes in water pressure coming into the home has the same effect on the pipes.
What do you do if you suspect a slab leak?
A slab leak is a serious issue that causes damage if left alone. If you suspect a slab leak, call a plumber immediately for a slab leak detection service. Damage caused by slab leaks can be permanent, so get it looked at right away.
Does homeowners insurance cover slab leaks?
A home insurance policy may cover some expenses incurred by slab leak damage. However, that will depend on your policy and your insurance provider. First, call your plumber. Then, call your insurance company and find out what they might cover. We’ll provide a full estimate that you can use to file your claim.
Are slab leaks Dangerous?
Slab leaks are extremely dangerous to your home. They affect the foundation. A shift or break in your foundation can cause damage in the rest of your home.
